TYPES OF HEART
Heart of a Believer
Reading many Ahadith about the heart i concluded that it is not only a vital organ of human body but also consists of life, a life within a person. Just as a fish remains alive when it is in fresh water, similarly the heart of a mo'min remains alive till the heart is regularly cleansed, watered, polished and shone. As the Hadith narrated by Noman Bin Bashir says narrated the Prophet salallahu Alahi wa sallam Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh, which, if it be whole, all the body is whole, and which, if it is diseased, all of [the body] is diseased. Truly, it is the heart.” Related by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And the Quran says (Kalla bal rana AAala quloobihim ma kanoo yaksiboona)[al-Mutaffifeen - 83:14 “Nay! rather, what they used to do has become like rust upon their hearts.”
A DEAD HEART
As Allah has best described this heart in the Quran in Surah Baqarah with the words
Khatama Allahu ‘ala qulubihim wa’’ala sam’ihim (صلي ) wa-‘ala absarihimghishawatunh (صلي ) walahum ‘adhabun ‘azimun
Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, (i.e. they are closed from accepting Allah's Guidance), and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment. V7
They have erred so much that Allah has hardened their hearts from understanding. They could be intellectuals’ entrepreneurs or multimillionaires’ nothing can afford to remove this seal from the heart which are sealed by Allah swt. They could have all the understanding of the world but the concept of Allah, His Creations and His Glory that person will not be able to conceive
A SICK HEART
Described in the Quran in ch2 v10 In their hearts is a disease, and Allah increaseth their disease. A painful doom is theirs because they lie. These are mostly the hypocrites who understand yet deny. They are given a chance of repentance. They can change through true repentance and return to their Lord the Most High.
Heart Which Allah wants
The day of Qiyaamah is described as: “yauma La yanfa’u maalun wa Laa banuun, -The day when wealth and children will not benefit anyone Illaa man Ataa Allaahu bi Qalbin Saleem except he who will come to Allah with the Qalbin Saleem (A pure heart)”Ch 26 [Suratul Shu'ara 87-89] Allah wants a pure heart. A heart which does not have love of dunya, love of wealth, love of family, love of fame, love of fulfilling his desires and also a heart empty of hatred, clean from jealousy, pride, hypocrisy and disbelief. Pure means completely and solely for clean for Allah swt. A heart built with fear and love of Allah. A heart filled with taqwa. A heart which has sincerity, compassion, love and Mercy for all beings, a heart free from disobedience
How to Develop Such A Heart
In A hadith the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) has shown a way with which one can clean his/her heart. The Prophet (‘alaihi salato was-salam) said “These hearts become rusty just as iron does when water affects it.” On being asked what could clear them, he replied “A great amount of remembrance of death and recitation of the Qur’an.” [Tirmidhi]. Also in the Quran Allah says (Qad aflaha man tazakka
Wa-thakara isma rabbihi fasalla) [al-A'laa - 87:14-15] He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself And mentions the name of his Lord and prays.
“… the one who repents, becomes a true believer, and starts doing good deeds, for then Allah will change his evil deeds into good, and Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful. He that repents and does good deeds, has truly turned to Allah with good turning.” [al-Furqaan - 25:70-71]
Which Category does Our Heart belong to so let us reflect and ask ourselves these Questions
Do we remember death
Do we repent sincerely and start doing good deeds
Do we fear so much that it stops us from disobeying Allah swr
Do we recite the Quran in abundance and reflect upon it.
Do we Do zikr (sunnah, duas, remembrance of Allah etc)
I sum with the words of Rasulullah salallahu alaiha wa sallam as he Described as A good Pure Heart (Qalbin Saleem in a hAdith
Rasool Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) has said that the successful is the one whose heart has become pure. He described the features of a pure heart as:
“He has been successful! whose heart Allah has made sincere towards faith, whose heart He has made free from unbelief, his tongue truthful, his soul calm, his nature straight,
whose ear He has made attentive and his eye observant. The ear is a funnel and the eye is a repository for what the heart learns. He is successful whose heart is made retentive.” [ Tirmidhi]
